Plumbing and Basic Home Maintenance
You don’t need to be a DIY master or a plumbing expert to help maintain the plumbing in your own home. The current global financial climate has pushed more and more property owners to performing as many of these basic property maintenance tasks as they can themselves. That doesn’t mean though that you should just try your hand at every plumbing problem that comes your way because you simply won’t be equipped or trained to deal with them. Start small with something like a faulty tap that needs to be replaced or working on your kitchen sink and then scale your way up from there.
If you’re just dealing with basic home plumbing problems then you can probably handle most of these yourself but if you’re look at dealing with or fitting anything complicated like an electric shower then it would be a good idea to get at least some advice from a professional plumber before you get started. Even if you have to pay for this advice it could save you an unknown amount of cash in a botched DIY plumbing job later on.
Make sure you have the right tools for the right job too before you start so include plungers, augers, adjustable wrenches, screwdrivers, plumbers tape, washers and pliers on your shopping list. This is just a very basic list to get you started or you could also just try buying yourself a plumbers toolkit from one of the larger DIY stores – it should have most things you need in there or at the very least enough to cover you for most basic plumbing tasks.
Doing some plumbing DIY can be a lot of fun and a great learning experience but know your limits when you start out and at least that way you can minimize or limit the possibility of any nasty surprises popping up while you work.
